From the beginning of the semester, I would like to say I improved a lot. Comparing my very first assignment, my Introduction paper, there were a lot of mistakes in both grammar and overall writing style. It wasn’t very elegant, and many words could have been replaced with better wording. Now looking at my final assignment, Research Proposal, I feel as though I improved my writing style much better. Reading the textbook, and seeing so many examples of both good/bad essays helped me reflect on my own writing, and I was able to pick and choose various aspects of the essays.
Another improvement I believe I made was about subcultures; before, it was something that was actually learning what a subculture is. It’s something that is a part of our everyday lives, so it is easy to just turn a blind eye to them. We ourselves are a part of so many subcultures, it sometimes plays an important role in who we are. Throughout this semester, I’ve not only learned what a “subculture” actually is, but I was also able to better understand what it actually is to be a coffee drinker. And able to reflect on various social issues surrounding it; such as gentrification and rapid urbanization that seems to anchor to coffee shops in general.
