Introduction

I’d like to believe that from the very first moment when a person is born he/she is a blank book. And as we grow up, the pages soon get filled with all sorts of thoughts/ideas, personalities, and ideals. Immigrating to the United States at a young age, I was fortunate enough to settle in Queens, known to be one of the most diverse boroughs in NYC. It wasn’t hard to incorporate myself into a completely new reality; different cultures varied from every block, and I was able to experience and learn from them. However, my parents made sure to expose me to the cultures they grew up from back in South-Asia. This is how I grew up mostly, a constant juggle between the teachings of the two hemispheres; it sometimes did feel too hard to handle at times. But towards the end of High School, I decided to devise a kind of ‘hybrid’ blend. At first, I believed that what I had done was unique, but I soon realized that people all around me have their own unique blend. I believe this whirling journey continues to this day; I meet different kinds of people every day and at the same time learning something new from yesterday.

I’d like to think of myself to be open-minded; at the same time, I feel no one can be completely open-minded. Everyone (myself included) has some sort of biased opinion usually polar-opposite of a certain topic.  Personally, I feel as though I developed some sort of biased towards most religious theologies. They feel very invasive and seem to always impose on yourself. While I do agree, it gives a sense of community, and brings different kinds of people together; religion should be a personal conquest rather than a collective one. But I do try to not think in a biased way when talking about subjects that I don’t particularly agree with; I believe that talking about these difficult topics without biased is a process. Getting a BS in Biology here at the City College of New York, I hope to become a pharmacist and help many people with their illnesses; the healthcare field requires those who are unbiased, otherwise it might affect your efficiency on who you want to help. It is important to be self-aware and take into people’s different ideals respectively.
